Jana James Amimu was born in the mining town of Redclif in Zimbabwe. James was never afforded the opportunity to attend any formal art school but he was passionate, persistent and uniquely talented. His first breakthrough came when he exhibited at the National Art Gallery in Zimbabwe in 2014 in the Prominent Personality category.

In 2015 James went on to exhibit at the Dominic Benhura Studio – one of Zimbabwe’s most distinguished galleries and in 2016 he was invited to display his work at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa.

Recently James participated in the prestigious Sanlam National Portrait Award where he came 170th out of 1970 artists. James’s work has attracted international recognition and is displayed in many prominent hotels and lodges.
